| GHWY members adopt common definition of care-experienced
We are proud to announce that all 13 GHWY member institutions have pledged to adopt a common definition of care-experienced.
Members will use UCAS's definition of care-experienced, which is more inclusive of the range of care settings students may have experienced.
This will help care-experienced students who are navigating what can be a complex system, and ensure that those in need of support are better able to get access to it. | Read more |

Council gives care leavers protected status
West Northamptonshire Council has granted people who have spent time in care "protected characteristic" status.
It is one of more than 50 councils across England and Scotland to make the change.
The authority said those who have experienced care can face significant barriers that impact them throughout their lives.
There is a national campaign to make it illegal for those who have been in care to be discriminated against. Last month North Northamptonshire Council approved a similar proposal. | Read more |

Childhood in care raises risk of entering English youth justice system eightfold
A new study has found that children in England who have lived in care are eight times more likely to have received a youth justice caution or conviction than those who have not.
It points to a number of societal disadvantages that have contributed to the figures. These include individuals often being criminalised for behaviour that would not result in a youth justice intervention if it had occurred in a non-care setting; children facing excessive surveillance in care; and care-experienced children being more likely to have mental health problems and to struggle at school. | Read more |
