New LEAP programme SEND & neurodiversity support

New LEAP programme

SEND & neurodiversity support

Schools are encouraged to share the new LEAP programme, offering SEND and neurodiversity workshops across Devon for families and professionals, including autism support.

Sessions provide practical guidance, greater understanding and confidence to support children and young people.

Families may also find Autism Central (Anna Freud Centre) helpful, offering national peer support for autistic people and their families.

Devon School Library Service at the Devon County Show – free children’s book!

The Devon School Library Service will be at the Devon County Show (21–23 May, Westpoint, Exeter) on the Devon County Council stand.

Children visiting the stand can take away a FREE children’s book, helping to inspire reading for pleasure, alongside fun activities and book recommendations.

A great day out for families – please help us spread the word.

                  Would you like to connect with other school librarians?

                  Our termly networking meetings are held either at our centre in Willand or online.

                  They are led by the SLS advisory team and are a source of up-to-date information, the sharing of ideas and good practice, plus a chance to look around another library and talk about the books we love.

                    Sustainable schools and waste education

                    The Department for Education's strategy ‘Sustainability and Climate Change: A Strategy for the Education and Children’s Services Systems’ stated that all schools should have:   

                    • A Sustainability Lead – a individual or team of people who will implement actions to improve the sustainability of the school
                    • A Climate Action Plan – outlining how the schools plan to work towards Net Zero

                    It’s not too late to get started on your Climate Action Plan; if you are still looking for help developing and implementing your plan, then visit Devon County Council’s Sustainable Schools webpages for links to a wide range of excellent free resources and opportunities.
