Dear Parents/Guardians,

As we come towards the end of the spring term, we write to you with the latest updates from Exeter College.

College Applications

If your young person is planning on studying at Exeter College in September, it is likely they have now completed an application form and received an offer for their chosen course.

If your young person has not yet applied, please note that we are still accepting applications and have one further interview night on 25 June between 5 - 7.30pm. We’d encourage them to apply as soon as possible to give them the opportunity to attend an interview in June and secure an offer of study.

Communications from College

Exeter College sends regular, important communications on topics such as the travel scheme, flying start work and enrolment via email to all applying students. We therefore ask that you encourage your young person to check their emails regularly (including their junk/spam folders) for any useful college emails. Please remember to let us know if the contact email addresses on your young person’s account need to be updated to aid communication.

Inform us of changes

Flying Start Activities

To help new students feel better prepared for their studies at Exeter College we ask them to complete some subject preparation tasks over the summer holidays. These Flying Start activities get students thinking about the courses they’re going to study by completing engaging tasks to develop some of the skills and knowledge they will gain at College. All students who have been offered a place at Exeter College will be emailed links to the Flying Start work for their subjects/course in July.

All full-time learners who live more than 3 miles from College are eligible for the Exeter College Travel Pass Scheme. The scheme provides discounted travel passes for buses and/or trains, regardless of household income. Additional, means-tested discounts are offered to eligible students to further support with the cost of travel as part of our bursary scheme. For detailed information on the support available follow the link below.

Bursary - Applications are open

In addition to the Travel Scheme, we offer a student Bursary Scheme to help ensure that financial constraints don’t present a barrier to accessing an outstanding education. The threshold to qualify for the bursary is currently £30k per year (maximum household income), although students who live more than 3 miles from College and whose household income is between £30-£50k can apply for additional travel scheme discounts.

The bursary amounts vary depending on financial circumstances, but the bursary can pay for essential college costs such as travel, free meals, academy fees, books, and specialist uniform, amongst other things.

College Enrolment

Enrolment will take place between 22 August - 1 September
It is essential that students attend their enrolment appointment in person.

What is enrolment?

At enrolment each learner will meet a lecturer to discuss their GCSE results and sign up for their course. Please rest assured that support will be available for students to find an alternative course option if they haven't met the entry requirements for their chosen course. Learners will receive their student ID card, find out about the start of term and can speak to staff from the travel and bursary, learning support, wellbeing and EXtra teams.

Students will be sent a letter and email with the details of their enrolment appointment at the start of August, as well as a text. It is essential that students attend their enrolment appointment in person so that they can accept their offer of study. Those learners who have started working for an apprenticeship employer will be informed directly of their enrolment, which may take place in the workplace.

If your young person is going abroad for the duration of our enrolment period, they will need to inform our admissions team. Please contact admissions once they receive their invitation to enrolment using the details that will be provided, so that we can try to make alternative arrangements for them to enrol.
