Key Updates.

March challenge - we’re the sixth most improved trust nationally with 12 days still to go!

We’re currently the sixth most improved trust nationally and our month to date four-hour performance is 79.5%, above the national ask of 76%.

Additionally, your efforts over the last few days have moved us up the overall March performance table from the 37th highest performing trust nationally to 23rd out of 124 trusts…currently we need to hit 83% to be in the top 10.

These are truly incredible achievements. Improving our performance to these levels over a period that includes a weekend is no small task.

Finishing inside both top 10s (most improved and overall performance) at the end of the month would give us access to £4m of infrastructure funding, £2m for each top 10 position – a great incentive.

Please print off and display this updated March challenge poster in colleague areas to help reach colleagues who may not have regular access to emails.

The level of enthusiasm across the Trust for this challenge is palpable and we’re working in ways we haven’t done before. Conversations about how to keep improving, our plans for the upcoming bank holiday weekend and how we will take the learning from this challenge and use it beyond March are already taking place.

Thank you for your ongoing immense passion, expertise and focus.

CQC rates maternity services ‘requiring improvement’

The Care Quality Commission last week published a report following a short-notice inspection of maternity services at both North Devon District Hospital and the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital and has rated the services ‘Requires Improvement’.

This is of course a disappointing outcome, but the reports provide a constructive and comprehensive sense of the areas we must target for improvement to ensure we meet the needs of women and birthing people and their babies in North and East Devon.

We are viewing the reports alongside the positive feedback we received in the CQC’s recent maternity patient survey. Our patients reported that our services offer compassionate, professional and personalised care.

Thank you to all of our staff for everything you do to deliver safe and high-quality care to our patients, often in challenging circumstances. Thanks particularly to those of you who were involved in these inspections and are involved in leading teams through the improvement journey.

Care Opinion feedback: “They were all so kind to me and put me completely at my ease”

Well done to the oral and maxillofacial team at NDDH for this great feedback on Care Opinion: “I recently attended the Maxillofacial department at Barnstaple hospital for a biopsy from the roof of my mouth.

“I know that it was only a minor procedure, but nonetheless it was really reassuring. They explained everything very fully, and gave me full advice for afterwards. I cannot thank them enough.” See the full feedback here

Fraud update – working while off sick is an offence

Did you know that 85% of referrals received by the NHS counter fraud team are colleagues working while sick?

This may amount to a criminal offence by obtaining sick pay under false pretences. If you know someone that is currently off on sick leave but is working a second job, please involve the fraud team.
