For the first time in a number of years shoppers are set to benefit from free weekend parking in the run up to Christmas in council-owned car parks in Lutterworth and Market Harborough to encourage people to shop locally and help boost Harborough's economy.

Free parking will be available on Saturday 2, 9, 16 and 23 December 2023.

Cllr Phil Knowles, Leader of Harborough District Council, said: “This initiative is supporting residents and businesses alike in the midst of a cost-of-living crisis. By suspending parking charges we are showing our commitment to ensuring that our town centres don’t just survive, but thrive. I encourage people to take advantage of this fantastic offer and to use this as an opportunity to shop local.”

Shoppers can park for free for up to four hours in short stay car parks, and all day in long stay car parks in Market Harborough and Lutterworth.

Drivers will still need to register their stay and can simply do this through the Pay by Phone App or by getting a free ticket from the pay and display machines. Drivers must still enter their vehicle registration and are able to benefit from one free parking period per day.

NHS vaccination programmes for flu and Covid-19

image.

The Covid-19 and flu vaccination programme provides vital protection to those eligible and their families over winter, keeping people from developing serious illnesses, and helping to minimise hospitalisations during busy winter months.

People who are 65 and over and others who are at particular risk, are now able to get their flu and Covid-19 vaccines ahead of winter. This will offer better protection ready for the coldest months of the winter, when viruses circulate more.

All eligible people can now book their Covid-19 and flu vaccinations.

The protection offered by each dose of the Covid-19 and flu vaccine reduces over time and therefore it is very important that eligible people take up the offer of the next seasonal dose, in order to receive maximum protection.

Those who are eligible will be able to book their Covid-19 and flu vaccine by visiting the website or by calling 119.

There is also a local booking telephone service available to all residents in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. To book call: 0116 497 5700, lines are open: Monday – Friday 8am – 8pm and on Saturday between 9am – 5pm.

Support local causes with Harborough Lotto

Harborough Lotto

Harborough Lotto was set up to support community projects in the local area, by raising money within the community for the community.

It has been empowering local good causes to raise money since 2018, with tickets for the lottery costing just £1 a week, with 60 pence going directly to good causes!

Each ticket has a 1 in 50 chance to win a prize each week, with a top prize of £25,000! That's a better chance of winning than the National Lottery or the Health Lottery.

Each ticket has six numbers and each number is between 0 and 9. There is a draw every Saturday night when a six digit winning combination will be picked. Prizes will be given to players with tickets that match the first or last 2 to 6 numbers from the winning combination. Match all six and you win the jackpot!

In a time of shrinking budgets and increased community need, Harborough Lotto enables people to support the causes they care most about, helping good causes to connect with their supporters.
