| University of Bradford named eighth for social inclusion
The University of Bradford, one of our 13 member institutions, has been ranked eighth in the UK for social inclusion in the latest Times/Sunday Times University Rankings 2024.
Bradford is also among the top 10 most successful at narrowing the black awarding gap and is placed third for first generation students, with two thirds of entrants being the first in their family to go to university. | Read more |

Barriers to HE for care-experienced students
Previous blogs in this series have looked in-depth at some of the barriers to HE that care-experienced students may face. This month we look at some more challenges they may face. Many of them overlap with each other but they can all be factors in reduced progression to HE.

Upcoming CPD opportunities |
Many care-experienced students also have additional support needs, such as a disability or being from a minority ethnicity. These free sessions provide a broader understanding of these lived experiences and ways in which to engage with young people. |

Self-paced learning
We offer a range of opportunities to upskill and build confidence for individuals who support young people with their educational progression.
Our opportunities align with the academic year, covering topics such as preparing students for admissions interviews, equipping them with current knowledge on apprenticeships, clearing and student finance.

Upcoming Higher Education (HE) events HE events can help young people to plan the next steps on their educational journey. They offer an opportunity to visit campuses, talk to staff and current students, and learn more about what courses are available. They are free, with in-person as well as online options usually available. |

| University Centre Leeds Open Event

Young aspiring artists design John Lewis Partnership's Made with Care collection
The John Lewis Partnership has unveiled the first design for a new lifestyle brand that will be curated with designers and creators who have grown up in the care system - Made With Care.
The new brand marks the start of a new design focused collaboration created by people who have had experience of the care system.
The first product is designed by Michael Archibald, who worked with the John Lewis in-house design team and its creative partners Saatchi & Saatchi to create a design for a sustainable tote bag. | Read more |

Care-experienced man prepares for job in care industry after graduating
A 22-year-old man who spent three years in a care unit after 'misbehaving' at school has graduated from UHI Moray.
On leaving care he decided to make up for some of his missed years of education and applied to study a Level 5 in Social Services, then progressed through Level 6 and graduated with a HNC.
He has already found employment and, taking him full cycle, he is now working in the care industry himself for Cornerstone. | Read more |
