Autumn COVID-19 booster programme launches Monday 11 September | The national COVID-19 booster programme has been brought forward from October and will now begin on Monday 11 September in response to the new BA.2.86 COVID variant, and the high prevalence, severity and rise in hospital admissions.
Those eligible for the vaccine will include: - residents in a care home for older adults
- all adults aged 65 years and over
- people aged six months to 64 years in a clinical risk group
, - frontline health and social care workers
- people aged 12 to 64 years who are household contacts of people with immunosuppression
- people aged 16 to 64 years who are carers and staff working in care homes for older adults.
Please note eligibility may be updated upon receiving JCVI advice.
The national booking system for public clinics will open on Monday 18 September, for appointments from Tuesday 19 September.
We’ll share more information tomorrow, including local information on where and when vaccination clinics will be taking place. | Northern services are very busy today – please help drive discharges | Our Northern services are in a challenging position today and we need everyone to drive discharges to help improve capacity so we can manage the ongoing demand.
Please help by taking the following actions: - Make use of the discharge lounge as early as possible in the day
- Any clinical staff not currently directly supporting the wards, please consider what you can do to help with discharges, particularly if you are aware that we have inpatients who are on your caseload
- If a diagnostic test is required for discharge, consider if this could be done in an outpatient setting
- Ensure clear discharge plans are in place.
- Please ensure discharge planning starts at the point of admission. We have a patient information leaflet that can help
- Please identify any patients for criteria-led discharge, ensuring this is clearly documented in the patients notes
- Please get discharge summaries/TTAs to pharmacy as early in the day as possible

| Thank you: Lowman ward team |
|
|
|
Today's thank you comes from Leena Chacko, Clinical Nurse Manager, Lowman ward.
Leena says: "I want to take this opportunity say a huge thank you to my fabulous team on Lowman ward. Even though I started just six months ago, I felt that they are a fabulous team due to the type of patients we have each and every day, very challenging, especially eating disorder patients. |
|
| "Whatever it may be, even though staff have been attacked by different patients on the ward, still they all work hard with a smile on their face.
"The staff wellbeing team, clinical psychologist and TRim have been visiting the ward on a regular basis to support the team. Words are not enough to thank them, but I want them to be recognised and appreciated.
"Well done my fantastic team." |
