Grants to tackle social isolation

Grants of up to £2,000 are available to support groups and community hubs in the East Lindsey area who are supporting residents to tackle social isolation.

The Cost of Living crisis saw a number of community groups open as Warm Spaces in winter 2022 and many of those spaces saw 100s of residents through their doors over the winter period.

One overriding theme from those who attended was how residents had benefited from the support they got from attending the warm space. Many groups have stayed open during the warmer months for residents to continue to access the support on offer, whether that be a cuppa with new friends or learning a new skill like knitting.

Groups can apply for a grant from £100 to £2,000.

Forms for this grant can be accessed below or by emailing Nichola Holderness, Community Leadership Manager, South & East Lincolnshire Council Partnership at nichola.holderness@boston.gov.uk

Changing Places facility opens at Lincolnshire Wildlife Park in Friskney

A new, fully-accessible Changing Places facility at Lincolnshire Wildlife Park, Friskney, was opened by Councillor Craig Leyland.

The facility comes after East Lindsey District Council successfully sourced £300,000 in national funding to help up to eight areas in the District develop new facilities for visitors.

As one of the largest visitor attractions in East Lindsey, and now being one of the county's most popular animal attractions highlighting animals from all over Europe, Lincolnshire Wildlife Park is working towards being as accessible and inclusive of all communities as possible.

Changing Places Toilets are designed for people who cannot use standard accessible toilets. These are larger and accessible for people with limited mobility, or specific disabilities and care needs. They are fitted with hoists, privacy screens, adult-sized changing benches, peninsula toilets and have space for carers.

In the coming months other Changing Places facilities will be installed at Alford Town Centre, Woodhall Spa Jubilee Park and Lido, Sandilands Nature Reserve, and Embassy Theatre.

Horncastle Horse Fair

A community celebration is being held in Horncastle throughout this summer to mark the 75th anniversary of the last Great Horncastle Horse Fair. The celebration includes, an exhibition, free workshops, a guided walk, a film screening and more, and will culminate in a main event on Saturday 12th August, in several locations around Horncastle town centre.

In the early 19th century Horncastle's Horse Fair was reputedly the largest horse fair. It was held every year from at least 1229 around the Feast of St Lawrence (10th August) and brought visitors seeking the best horses from as far away as Russia, Hungary and even America. The fair declined with the coming of the railways and motorised transport, with the last one held in 1948.
