One in seven people in the workforce is likely in their private time to also be caring for/assisting a friend or family member (Juggling work and unpaid care) Source: Carers UK 2019.
These employees are ‘working carers’, who try to balance their work and caring responsibilities. Many working carers report they can struggle to juggle work and caring and often feel like they have to make a choice between the two.
A flexible approach by employers to supporting those in the workforce who have caring responsibilities can:
Attract and retain employees (reducing recruitment and training costs).
Reduce stress (for all staff involved)
Increase resilience and productivity of the workforce
Reduce sick leave
Improve the organisation’s service delivery
Increase employee morale
An employer wishing to seek support in making their business more carer friendly can contact the North East Lincolnshire Carers’ Support Service – this is the main carers support service in North East Lincolnshire, and can support businesses in the development and execution of carer friendly policies and processes, as well as carers directly in a variety of areas (such as counselling, advocacy, befriending, activities, training, etc)
You can also seek information about carers, carer rights and training on managing carers, as well as ideas for supporting carers, from the NEL employers for carers portal, which is free to all businesses in NEL.

Community Response Fund (Immingham)
The Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) Jonathan Evison has announced a second round of funding from his Community Response Fund, targeting crime and community safety at a local level by directly responding to issues identified by the public that are affecting their neighbourhoods and local areas.
The PCC’s Community Response Fund (CRF) is a project which responds directly to the issues that the public have identified via Humber Talking, the engagement tool used by the PCC and Humberside Police which asks residents key questions about the issues that affect their community.
Anti-social behaviour (ASB) has been highlighted as a priority by residents in Immingham and reports of ASB incidents are on the increase. The most common areas experiencing anti-social behaviour are around the Civic Centre and Homestead Park. The most common ASB is youth-related.
As part of the Community Response Fund, projects are sought which provide diversionary activities for young people that will help reduce instances of anti-social behaviour in the area.
