Upcoming Line Closure

Guildford to Petersfield
Monday 24 to Friday 28 July

Dear Stakeholders,

Line closure - Guildford to Petersfield, Monday 24 to Friday 28 July

We are writing to let you know that 5-days of consecutive work will begin between Guildford and Petersfield in late July. We’ll be continuing with our preparatory work for the Farncombe to Petersfield resignalling scheme, installing power cables at Haslemere and Farncombe (with accompanying buildings for signalling and electrical equipment) and improving the safety of level crossings at several locations including a level crossing upgrade at Sheet.

While the railway is closed, we will take the opportunity to complete some minor routine works such as:

  • Track maintenance along the stretch of the closed line

  • Track renewal at Haslemere station

  • Vegetation work between Farncombe and Witley

  • Vegetation, clearance and drainage works between Grayswood and Haslemere

What do you need to know?

The line will be closed between Guildford to Petersfield from Monday 24 to Friday 28 July

During these dates, passengers should check before they travel as there will be changes to services, with buses replacing trains on the route.

This work is part of a wider project to improve journeys into Waterloo from the Portsmouth area. Work started in 2022 and will see new signals installed, as well as renewing track and level crossings along the route. Set to finish in late 2024, the programme will improve reliability and journey times for passengers.

Over the past month a marketing campaign has been underway, with posters in stations, digital display information and updates on social media. It would be greatly appreciated if you were to share this information to make the public more aware.

If you have any questions about this scheme or require assistance in the future, please do not hesitate to get in contact.

Kind regards,

Network Rail Southern Stakeholder Team
