Key Updates.

Three weeks left to get the COVID-19 spring booser vaccination

Eligible people are being asked to come forward for their spring booster ahead of the seasonal campaign coming to a close on Friday 30 June.

In Devon more than 124,100 people have had their spring booster to date, which is over 65% of those eligible. The spring booster is for anyone aged over 75 years old and anyone over five years old who is immunosuppressed.

See the Trust website for more information.

Pension re-banding process and payroll

On Saturday 1 April the pensions re-banding exercise took place and the pensionable earnings paid in 2022/23 were reviewed.

This gave the pensionable earnings that your pensions banding was based on from 1 April 2023. This is now subject to review again due to the Agenda for Change pay award. Pensions tier rates have been increased by 5% in line with the pay award increases.

Please note enhancements on top of basic pay may put you over the pension threshold, increasing your pension percentage paid.

Please review this link regarding the cost of being in the scheme before you contact the Pensions team. But if you feel that your pension contribution rate is incorrect, please email the pensions department:

A great place to work.

Thank you: Radiology Department and Dr Sarah Johnson

Today's thank you comes from Amer Arslanagic, Associate Specialist in Trauma and Orthopaedics.

Amer says: "On behalf of our Trauma and Orthopaedics Team, I would like to say a massive thank you to the Radiology Department and in particular our specialist MSK Consultant Radiologist, Dr Sarah Johnson, for continually providing an amazing service in accommodating our patients, often at short notice.

"We regularly need investigations (eg MRI scans, CT scans) and advice regarding subtle pathology and she does this with a smile and utter professionalism when acting as liaison radiologist. Thank you.”

Development funding for training

Our new process is now live on Learn+ for individual and group applications for Trust funds to support training, learning or development.

To ensure a smooth process:

  • Submit applications in Learn+ and wait until approval is received before training is booked – funding panel dates are available on Learn+
  • Ensure that in applications, the applicant and manager supporting statements demonstrate alignment to the service and/or Trust strategy/objectives, showing specific measurable benefits

Please note that this process is only for training where centralised Trust funds are required. If you have any questions please contact the People Development team.

See HUB for more details.

Bank Healthcare support workers (HCSW) – Sunday deadline for re-profiling self-assessment

A reminder to any Bank HCSWs who have not yet completed the re-profiling self-assessment that you have until Sunday 11 June 2023 to complete it. This is the final deadline to be reviewed and potentially re-banded as part of this exercise.

Bank HCSWs who have already completed their re-profiling self-assessment do not need to take any further action and will be notified of the outcome in due course.

If you are a Bank HCSW who has not yet completed the self-assessment please check your NHS email as you will have been sent an email with a new link.

If you have any questions about this please speak to your line manager in the first instance. Or for further help and assistance please send an email titled ‘Band 2 to 3 Project Query’ to the HR Helpdesk - rduh.hrhelpdesk@nhs.net - and they will pass your query on to the relevant person.

Shortlisting your applicants for interview and beyond

When you are shortlisting candidates for interview, please ensure you are familiar with the essential criteria set out in the job description for the role advertised.

Qualifications that are essential for the post need to be declared on the application form by candidates and, for successful candidates, evidenced during the pre-employment checking process. It is really important that people who apply to these roles can evidence that they meet this criteria, in order to uphold the principles of equal pay for work of equal value.

If you have any questions about job descriptions, job evaluation or you wish to amend the job description before advertising, you can email the job evaluation team for advice and support – rduh.jobevaluation@nhs.net

For more information take a look at our updated  line managers guide to AfC recruitment.

Care Opinion feedback: Impressed by the prostate cancer assessment service"

Well done to the Urology team at NDDH for this great feedback on Care Opinion: "This was my first visit to the urology department and the prostate cancer assessment clinic and I was very impressed.

"Everyone that I saw was very professional but also very helpful and friendly, answering all my questions in detail and making me feel as relaxed as possible. Everything that was required of me was explained clearly and the appointment went very smoothly.

"My GP referred me and I was called the next day with an appointment in two working days time. Following the assessment I received a call later the same day with a date for a follow up scan.

"From my experience I can't see how the service could be improved."

Local updates.

Be sure to check your junk mail folder regularly

Please ensure that you regularly check your junk mail folders for legitimate emails, we are aware of a recent incident where an email was incorrectly directed to the junk mail folder. Any emails that are in the folder but not junk should be marked as "Not Junk" so that they will be moved back into the inbox.

Please see HUB for instructions on how to move the junk mail folder into favourites to make it easier to see if there is any new mail in that folder.

Please don’t use ESR self-service this weekend

With the pay award processing, it is necessary for the Payroll team to run some vital processes over the weekend.

To allow for this please do not use ESR self-service to record or adjust any absence records at all until 12.30pm on Monday 12 June. This will help ensure no issues arise with absence recording.

ESR self-service absence recording will be available again after this time.
