Churchill and the Cabinet War Rooms

Historian and academic Stephen Goss invites you to uncover the remarkable story of the Cabinet War Rooms - an underground complex beneath the Treasury that became the nerve centre of Britain’s wartime strategy.
The Reminiscence Café meets monthly to celebrate history and culture and is a great way to connect with local residents.

Warmth in every stitch

Learn how to knit in friendly company this winter. This free workshop is aimed at beginners and experienced knitters alike. With guidance throughout, you will create a pair of practical hand warmers, perfect for keeping cosy in the colder weather.

Get swishing with a clothes swap

Swishing is so simple. Just bring in your unwanted clothing garments* for children or adults and exchange them for tokens, then come back later to choose alternative items to take home and enjoy.

Drop off between 11.30am and 1pm then choose items between 2 and 3pm.
*All donated items must be in good condition with no more than 10 unwanted items per person.

Yoga for everyone

From January to March 2026 see the library from an exciting new angle with a free taster yoga class. With a focus on deep breathing, mindfulness and slow stretches, these restorative sessions are suitable for all abilities. 

Yoga mats, blocks, and straps are all provided but please wear comfortable clothing.

We’re looking for a fluent French speaker to lead informal sessions where learners can practise speaking in a relaxed, friendly setting.


There’s no formal teaching involved - just fun conversations around topics of interest and guidance to learners when needed.
