Get ready to discover Harborough's hidden treasures as the Heritage Open Days festival returns from 12 to 21 September. This is your chance to explore fascinating local sites for free, many of which are normally closed to the public.

This year’s programme features 12 unique events across the district. You can wonder at Leicestershire's oldest windmill, go behind the scenes at Harborough Theatre, or uncover the history of Foxton Locks.

A special highlight is the series of guided tours inside the iconic Symington Building in Market Harborough, celebrating its history as a world-famous corset factory.

All events are free to attend, but some may require advance booking.

Explore behind the scenes of Market Harborough's Symington Building

Uncover Market Harborough’s industrial and social history at this iconic landmark. Once home to one of England’s first mechanised corset factories, the building now houses Harborough District Council and Harborough Museum.

Exclusive guided tours on 13 and 20 September will reveal hidden areas and share the story of the Symington family business through archive film and images. During the festival, the separate Bygone Market Harborough Exhibition will also be open, showcasing the building’s past and recent renovations.

Harborough District Walking Festival

Explore the hidden beauty of the Harborough district—rolling countryside, charming villages, canals, and local legends.

Supported by Harborough District Council and sponsored by Involved Holidays, the festival features guided walks led by expert guides James Carpenter (Blue Badge Tourist Guide) and George Keeping (landscape and archaeology specialist). 

The schedule of walks is as follows:

  • Sunday 14 September: Braybrooke, Dingley, Brampton Ash Circular Walk

  • Tuesday 16 September: Marston Trussell & Papillon Hall Circular Walk

  • Wednesday 17 September: Kings Norton, Little Stretton & Burton Overy Circular Walk

  • Thursday 18 September: Wistow & Kilby Circular Walk

  • Friday 19 September: Tilton on the Hill & Lowesby Circular Walk

  • Sunday 21 September: The Langtons & Stonton Wyville Circular Walk

Creative Harborough: A Celebration!

Market Harborough is set to come alive this September!

This exciting community collaboration brings together a rich and varied programme of arts, culture, heritage, and creative activities across the town. From the return of Arts Windows and surprise street performances by Arts Fresco to dance, film, music, theatre, and more, the events promise something for all ages and interests. Visitors are encouraged to explore the full programme and experience the energy and talent that define Harborough’s cultural scene.

Lutterworth Superhero September

Get ready for a super-powered adventure in Lutterworth with a fun, family-friendly Superhero Trail running from 6 to 27 September.

Pick up your trail map from Sweet Sisters for just £2 (or three for £5), then follow the clues hidden around the town to complete the challenge and win a prize. The fun culminates in a grand finale on Saturday 27 September! Don your best cape and mask and head to the Town Centre between 10am and 3pm for a fancy dress competition, the chance to win a family hamper, and to meet your favourite superheroes.

Wistow Maze

Are you looking for a fun outdoor adventure? Wistow Maze is the perfect day out for families, friends and curious explorers. This year’s maze, shaped like a steam train, features 8 acres of winding paths, bridges, and a quiz trail. Enjoy extra activities in the Funyard, including mini mazes, football games and space-hopper racing. Located just outside of Market Harborough at Wistow Rural Centre, the maze is open weekends only in September until 14 September, from 10am to 6pm (last entry 4.30pm). No booking needed—just turn up and enjoy!

Arts Fresco

Returning on Saturday 13 September, the much-loved Arts Fresco festival will once again transform Market Harborough’s town centre into the biggest street arts festival in the Midlands.

The town's streets will become a stage for a huge variety of diverse and engaging performances, bringing unique acts and vibrant entertainment for all ages to enjoy. This is a fantastic and free opportunity to experience the magic of street theatre right on your doorstep.

Market Harborough Art Windows

 Art Windows will be held amongst many of  Market Harborough’s independent shops throughout September.

Follow the colourful trail around the town in shop windows to enjoy original pieces made by artists of Harborough Artists Cluster, involving drawings, paintings, mosaics, ceramic sculpture, photography and much more!

Each piece contains information about the artwork, the name of the artist, and their contact details if you find a piece you love and wish to purchase.

Wistow Maze

Enjoy a sociable September in Lutterworth! Join the Ballroom and Latin Dance Workshop  at Lutterworth Town Hall on 21 September for an evening of rhythm and fun.

On 25 September, visit Cotesbach Educational Trust for Dr Leonard Holden’s talk on the impact of the railway on Market Harborough.

From  6 to 14 September, explore local creativity at The Turning Light Art Exhibition at LilyPad Fine Arts. These events offer great opportunities to connect, learn, and make lasting memories.

Lubenham Scarecrow Festival

On 13-14 September, Scarecrows will take over Lubenham when the annual Scarecrow Festival returns.

Get ready for a weekend full of fun, creativity and community spirit! Visitors will be able to enjoy stalls, food trucks, music, a surprise centerpiece, and the ever-popular raffle. 

With free entry, tractor rides, and parking, it will be a perfect day out for all ages. Donations are encouraged to support local groups and help keep the festival thriving.
