Selwood Housing.

Dear ,

Welcome to your August update. This month we are sharing a film about our stronger communities fund, an explanation of shared ownership as well as whistleblowing.

Help us to build stronger communities!

At Selwood Housing, we’re proud to support the people and places that make our communities thrive. Through our Stronger Communities Fund, we offer grants of up to £2,000 to help local groups and projects that make a real difference in our neighbourhoods. Whether it’s tackling local poverty, promoting inclusion, supporting skill-building, or simply creating a better place to live, we want to help you bring your ideas to life. Watch this video to hear from some of the projects we have supported over the last year and the impact this has had.

The application process is simple, and funding can cover either the full cost of a project or contribute to a larger initiative. If your project benefits Selwood Housing customers or takes place in one of our communities, we’d love to hear from you. Together, we can build stronger, more connected communities.

Click the button below to find out more information, read the qualifying criteria and access the online application form. Our current application window closes on 31 August 2025 but don't worry if that's too soon - the next application window opens on 1 October 2025, and there are four application windows throughout each year.

Step onto the property ladder with shared ownership

Shared ownership doesn’t have to mean saving for a huge deposit or taking on a mortgage for 100% of the property. Shared ownership offers a more affordable way to get on the property ladder by buying a share of a home—usually between 25% and 75%—whilst paying rent on the part you don’t own.

Because you’re only purchasing a share, the deposit you need is smaller, and securing a mortgage is often simpler.

Your monthly costs will include your mortgage on the share you own, rent on the remaining share, plus a service charge.

Shared ownership has been helping thousands of people take their first step onto the property ladder for over 40 years, including existing Selwood Housing rental customers. It could be the right choice for you too! Visit our website to find out more, including information on costs and a step by step guide. Visit the government website to find out more about shared ownership in your area.

Whistleblowing

Whistleblowing is when someone reports serious concerns about something that one of our staff, contractors or board members has done or failed to do.

Examples of a whistleblowing concern might be:

  • a failure to meet our legal duties as a landlord
  • a member of our staff engaging in criminal activity
  • a member of our staff allowing children or vulnerable adults to be put at risk of harm

Whistleblowing is different to making a complaint. A complaint is where you have concerns about a service you have received that is not up to standard, or where we have failed to provide a service. For example, an operative arriving late for an appointment or a staff member who is rude or unprofessional. You can find details of how to report a complaint on our website.

If you would like to report a serious concern in line with our whistleblowing policy, find out how in our whistleblowing customer information sheet

Scrutiny team review on damp and mould service

In July 2024, our board of directors approved the nine recommendations our scrutiny team put forward to improve our damp and mould service.

Now 12 months on, seven of the recommendations have been actioned. Of the remaining two recommendations, one has become part of our internal equality, diversity, and inclusion project. For the final recommendation, head of compliance Miles Tilling shares an update:

“Selwood Housing have initiated an internal project to put in place necessary processes, ensuring we will be compliant with Awaab’s Law guidance once it goes live in October 2025. As part of this we will agree and publish a service standard, as recommended by the scrutiny team. We will be consulting over this during the next few months as it’s important this standard delivers the right service to customers.”
