Staff parking permit renewal information for 2025/26 will be available soon

The new parking year starts on Monday 1 September 2025 - if you’re away over the summer, don’t worry, there is no limit to the number of staff permits that can be issued. Just make sure you renew your permit before you park on campus in the new parking year.

Find out more.

Improving our high voltage power network

Work to install a new West Ring Main on campus is underway, and will be largely taking place in grassed areas around the west of campus, from Sussex House, the ACCA and the Library, towards Jubilee and Essex House. Read more about the works underway on campus this summer.

Take a look at the new gym and fitness studio opening this summer

Big changes are coming to Sussexsport soon, with facilities being expanded and upgraded to better support the wellbeing of our students and staff. A brand-new, larger gym will open in the Sports Centre, and a dedicated wellbeing and fitness studio will launch in the heart of campus - both ready in time for Welcome Week 2025.

Read about the modern facilities and find out how they’ll better support student and staff wellbeing. You can also get a glimpse of an artist's impression of the new facilities in our photo gallery.

A new, external print service

The Print Unit has now closed, and our new external print service can be used by anyone with a Sussex email address. ‘Print Marketplace’ is an online portal that enables users to order almost any type of printing, including posters, leaflets and Sussex-branded stationery.

Find out about the service and how to set up your account on our new External Print webpage.

Welcoming OCS, our new facilities management partner

OCS joined the Sussex Estates and Facilities (SEF) partnership on Tuesday 1 July.  The new facilities management contract was signed by representatives of the University, the SEF board and OCS, marking the start of an exciting chapter.

One big change is that SEF and the University’s Estates and Commercial Services Division will be jointly known as ‘Estates’, reflecting an approach to one-team working and a commitment to providing seamless campus services. Although SEF will still exist as a legal entity, we’ll be removing the word 'SEF' from signage across campus and replacing it with clear messaging to reflect the transition.

Find out more and learn how we’re putting sustainability at the forefront of the new contract.

Saving tonnes of food from landfill

Has your office got a food waste caddy now? Around a third of the rubbish we generate on campus is food waste, so this is saving tonnes of food from going to the incinerator or to landfill. Plus, one full food waste caddy can produce enough energy to power a TV for two hours!

Ethics Research Manager (RM) now live

The Ethics RM system is now available for staff and postgraduate researchers (PGRs) via the University Okta site on Infonetica Apply. All new ethics applications must now be submitted through Ethics RM, though minor amendments can still be made via Sussex Direct. Please note that staff details are not yet integrated, so supervisors must log in to Infonetica Apply before being added to student applications. For login support, contact: resinfosystems@sussex.ac.uk.

Training for various colleagues has continued, including key reviewer groups, where more sessions are planned for September. Colleagues and PGRs can now view a how-to guide online too.

The new system will launch for undergraduate and postgraduate taught students on 1 September.

Curriculum Reimagined moves to next phase

July saw the final meeting of the Curriculum Reimagined project team. Over two years the team worked with many staff and students to review our academic framework and underpinning curriculum architecture – and more besides – to create a robust structure within which our future curriculum can be presented and delivered. This good work is set to continue in three key areas:

  • Sussex Framework – a single source of truth for assessment, curriculum and teaching policy and guidance

  • Sussex Choice – a distinct and reimagined interdisciplinary student offer

  • Sussex Prospectus – improved applicant experience and enhanced course change adaptability.

Read more about upcoming work and timelines on our dedicated Canvas page.

Council approves delayed launch for last Student Information System (SIS) release

The recommendation made by the SIS Steering Group to delay the launch for the fourth and final release of the project has been signed off by University Council.

Work to make sure our existing Oracle system is ready for registration activity continues, and the team is looking at the remaining project tasks as they replan the final system release.

All members of the Undergraduate Admissions Team are trained on the Clearing functionality in the new system and have already been making offers to Clearing applicants. Over 100 non-Admissions colleagues from across the University are being trained to support Clearing on A-Level results day.

Aligning projects with our new University website

The New Web Estate project team are working hard to align the development of our new website and intranet with other key projects, including the Student Information System and Curriculum Reimagined. Find out how we're ensuring all our course information remains fully accessible and up to date throughout the development process.

Unit4 testing begins

Work on the Unit4 project is progressing, with tests being run to identify improvements, refine processes, and ensure a smooth transition before Unit4 is moved to a fully cloud-hosted version. This testing will see the Finance team begin testing key functions over the coming months.

In other news...

For thousands of our graduates, their Sussex story began at an Open Day, and on the first Saturday in June our campus welcomed nearly 1,500 potential students (and their families), hoping that Sussex will become part of their story. This was one of our most successful Open Days for years, with 55% more prospective students attending compared to the same event in summer 2024. Find out more.
