Stronger Communities Fund success stories!

The Stronger Communities Fund is a grant scheme aimed at improving the lives of our customers and the communities where they live. This past year, the customer involvement team has worked with charities and community groups to fund 20 projects, from renovating outdoor nursery spaces to a community pantry. Over £30,000 from our Stronger Communities Fund has been donated, which is made up of contributions from Selwood Housing, as well as contractors such as B&Q and South West Procurement Alliance. An additional £233,000 has been invested through match-funding from local and national grant-givers.

The customer involvement team have focused on building new partnerships in the last year. We funded courses at the Amber Foundation, a temporary residential centre that helps young people transition into independent living. We also covered the full cost of a new project in Midsomer Norton with Sporting Family Change, providing 12 weeks of outdoor activities and healthy snacks to children living on our estate in Monger Lane.

We wanted to share this good news and highlight the positive impact the stronger communities fund has had over the last 12 months, bringing people together, building relationships, fostering inclusion and making a meaningful difference.

Pets and animals

We understand the positive impact pets can have on your well-being, from improving mental health to encouraging physical activity. You need to make sure you have permission for pets, but they will normally be allowed in all our properties, except flats with communal areas, shared spaces, or communal facilities like lounges or laundry rooms.

As a pet owner, you are expected to follow all legal and welfare responsibilities to ensure a safe environment for both you and your pet. For more details, please read our pets and animals policy, and check out our frequently asked questions for more information.

Spring has sprung!

We've all been enjoying some good weather with the recent sunshine! If you have a garden, now is the perfect time to get it ready for summer.

A little maintenance can go a long way! When the weather is fine and dry, give your lawn a mow. It's safe to leave grass clippings on your lawn if you don't have a compost bin as they will break down, releasing water and beneficial nutrients back into the grass, allowing it to grow back stronger and healthier.

If you have trees or hedges in your garden, prune them to ensure they overhang your neighbours as little as possible. This will also ensure trees don't become unmanageable, as trees in gardens are a customer's responsibility. Be aware, however, that it is illegal to disturb nesting birds. Nesting season is March to August, so if you have birds nesting in your garden, save hard pruning until autumn or winter.

There is lots more advice available on our website about maintaining your garden

Families Out Loud survey

Families Out Loud have been Selwood Housing's charity of the year for the last 12 months. They are a Wiltshire-based charity dedicated to supporting the families of people struggling with drug and alcohol addiction. They understand how isolating and overwhelming it can be when a loved one is caught in the grip of substance use, and offer a safe space, practical advice, and a listening ear.

As part of their ongoing commitment to helping families in our communities, they are working on an outreach project in Trowbridge. They want to hear directly from local families about their experiences—whether drug and alcohol use is an issue in their area, what services they currently have access to, and what other support could make a real difference.

To do this, they have put together a short questionnaire, designed to gather honest insights that will help shape future resources and services. Your voice matters, and by sharing your thoughts, you’ll be helping to create a stronger, more supportive community for everyone.
