EXETER COLLEGE ALUMNI NEWSLETTER

image.

Welcome to the spring term edition of the Exeter College alumni newsletter.

With March just around the corner, it should not be long now (we hope!) until we say hello to warmer, brighter days. It is in March, too, that we mark International Women's Day (8 March), a chance to show support for women's equality, their achievements, and to take action for gender parity. Alumna, Lucy Trafford, is now a lecturer in Law at the University of Oxford and an academic advisor for Frontline, a digital domestic violence risk assessment tool. Lucy's achievements are especially impressive given the challenges she faced in her final year of studies at College. Read on for more.

We hope you enjoy this update and thank you for being part of our Exeter College community.

LUCY'S STORY

Lucy Trafford studied the International Baccalaureate (IB) at Exeter College between 2013-14. She was forced into homelessness during her final year of studies as a result of domestic violence and, despite such adverse circumstances, achieved her IB qualification and secured her place at Oxford. She went on to gain her undergraduate degree, Masters and then her Doctorate, always incorporating criminal law and in particular the response to domestic violence, into her studies and progression planning. Lucy was recently appointed as a lecturer in Law at the University of Oxford and continues her work supporting various organisations and platforms in their research and initiatives tackling domestic violence and other related issues.
