Changes to your rent

We have recently written to customers confirming how much your rent will be from April 2024.

The letters also confirm service charges (where applicable), give details of any actions you need to take, and provide answers to frequently asked questions.

Things are a little different this time as the financial year 2024-2025 is a '53 week' year - you can find some answers to FAQs about that here.

If you are worried about paying your rent or service charges, please get in touch with your account manager, or contact customer support on 01225 715715.

We also have some useful links on our website for support with the cost of living.

Contents insurance

Selwood Housing insures your home as part of your tenancy agreement, but this does not cover your personal possessions being damaged, broken or stolen, such as:

  • furniture

  • carpets, curtains and bedding

  • clothes and jewellery

  • electrical devices

  • pictures and ornaments

If you don't currently have any home contents insurance, it's a good idea to think about whether you need it, to provide peace of mind and essential help should the worst happen.

We have partnered with Thistle Tenant Risks who provide specialist policies for people living in social and affordable housing, on a pay as you go basis. Unlike many other contents insurance schemes there is no excess to pay.

If you'd like to know more, to make an informed decision, you can find all the details on our website including a customer information pack and application form.

Who's calling me?

Every three months our market research company, Acuity, conducts phone surveys to understand what customers think of our homes and services.

If you receive a call from Acuity in March, the number displayed will be 01225 535021.

Calls will be made between 9am and 8pm, Monday to Friday, and between 10am and 6pm on Saturday.

If you are one of the customers contacted, we hope you’ll be happy to take part – we really value your feedback. The results help us see how we’re doing and where we need to make improvements.

Free counselling

We are pleased to be able to offer customers access to a confidential health and wellbeing service through Selwood Housing’s insurers.

You can receive up to five sessions of confidential professional counselling, face to face, by phone or video.

To use the service, call their freephone helpline on 0800 288 4956 (available 24 hours a day).

Portable gas heaters

We have noticed some customers using portable gas heaters in their homes to avoid heating the whole property.

If used improperly, these can cause gas leaks, fires, explosions and carbon monoxide poisoning.

You may also be in breach of your tenancy agreement as many include a clause specifically prohibiting the storage of bottled gas and/or use of portable gas appliances.

If you are having problems using your central heating system or electric heaters, please contact us in the first instance. If you are struggling to pay your fuel bills, support is available here.
