Maternity Support Worker's Fundraising Snowdon Climb Snowdon Climb for Vulnerable Patients

A fundraising midwife has climbed Snowdon for UHNM Charity to help provide support to the vulnerable women she cares for during labour.

Gemma Jones, a Specialist Alcohol and Substance Misuse Maternity Support Worker at University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust (UHNM) completed her climb to raise funds to provide essential items such as toiletries and clothing for vulnerable mothers to be attending the Royal Stoke’s Maternity Centre.

Gemma is also fundraising for essential items for their babies including clothing and nappies.

She said: “In my role I support vulnerable women throughout their pregnancy, many of who are homeless or suffering from addiction. Through no fault of their own, many have limited support networks and very limited finances and are unable to get hold of everyday essential items in preparation for labour.”

“I wanted to give these women the same opportunities and experience that every expectant mother should receive. They are standard items for anybody arriving at UHNM to deliver their baby. As we don’t have any funds available for these items I was previously paying for them myself, but wanted to do something so we can continue to provide this simple support which makes a huge difference.” Read More>
