Latest Senior Leadership Team update

Over the past month, SLT have met on Thursday mornings and discussed, among other things:

  • Using the Cathedral for filming in June

  • Joining in with other cathedrals around the country to open for a Cathedrals at Night event on the 12th May

  • Plans for the staff and volunteer summer party

  • Plans for the autumn Dean’s Reception

  • A grant application to the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths for repairs to the Ball and Cross

  • We also received reports and recommendations from various committees, including the Events Committee, the Health and Safety Committee, the Fire Risk Board, the Fabric and Works Committee and the Enterprises Board.

Sustainability at the Cathedral: Recycling

Following on from last week's news about working towards greater sustainability and Net Zero Carbon, this week we're sharing an update from the Works team about our recycling performance over the last 12 months with a very handy infographic! This represents recycling of paper, as well as plastic, cans, glass, toner cartridges and other biodegradable waste.

Biggest monthly total yet for our Tap to Donate points

In April, a brilliant 1,884 people chose to donate to St Paul’s via Tap to Donate. This gave a monthly total of £10,900, beating our previous highest monthly total in December 2022.

This is a hugely important source of unrestricted donations (a donation which can be used for any purpose to meet our mission) for the Cathedral and we are incredibly grateful to every visitor who chooses to support us in this way. Each tap helps us to look after our beautiful building, and to continue our important ongoing work.

Thank you to the Visitor Experience Assistants, volunteers and all colleagues involved for their support with this - and if you happen to see someone using one of the Tap to Donate units, and feel comfortable doing so, please do go and say thank you on behalf of everyone here at St Paul’s.

If you want to find out more about Tap to Donate or would like more information how fundraising works, please come and speak to us in the Development team.

News from the Music team: Tom Daggett

Tom Daggett, OBE Organ Outreach Fellow, will be leaving St Paul’s to lead the Music department of Sheffield Cathedral, where he will launch a Schools Singing Programme for the Diocese and re-develop the Cathedral Choirs. Tom has been with us for 9 years, and in that time has brought so much to our Cathedral community as a valued colleague and friend. He will be very much missed.

Staff and volunteers are invited to join Tom in the Paternoster on Friday 7th July from 5pm for farewell drinks. His final service will be Evensong on Friday 28th July, sung by children from Hackney, to which everyone is welcome.

Coronation celebrations

Tomorrow, Saturday 6th May, sees the Coronation of Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla at Westminster Abbey.

For this historic occasion, Andrew, our Dean has been invited and will be attending on behalf of us all at the Cathedral.

Members of the Royal Family frequently attend our services and events, and together with the Presentation of the Loyal Address in March, this reinforces the close ties between St Paul’s and the monarchy.

Here at the Cathedral, there will be celebrations for staff and volunteers, as well as a special Evensong on Sunday 7th May at 3pm.

On Saturday 6th May, we will have an area for staff and volunteers in the Wren Suite, with decorations, a TV showing the Coronation broadcast, and snacks for everyone to enjoy. The Concorde Lounge will be a designated 'Coronation free' zone.

On Monday 8th May (Bank Holiday) we will be open for services and sightseeing as usual, and on Tuesday 9th May, the Chapter House offices and Concorde Lounge will be decorated, and there will be buffet snacks for everyone to enjoy.

Pension clinic reminder

Here's a reminder that our next pension clinic will take place on Thursday 22nd June. To book your consultation, please email AskHR@stpaulscathedral.org.uk

And finally...

The first ever rock concert was held here on the evening of the 27th April: Queen by Candlelight. Well done to everyone involved in the event, and thank you Millie Walker and the Concerts by Candlelight team for these beautiful photos!
