Weekly news

14th April
2023

Dear ,

Welcome to your weekly Cathedral news. In today's edition:

Library project update

The books return

The ongoing project to restore the Cathedral Library came one step closer to completion this week - the books are coming home!

You may have already seen some boxes arrive via the West doors, before being hoisted up to the Triforium level. There are 900 boxes containing around 13,500 books and manuscripts, and these will be re-shelved over the coming weeks before the Library reopens in May.

As a side note, the boxes used for book storage are now up for grabs! They are 64 litre Really Useful boxes, with lids and handles. If you'd like to give these boxes a new home then please make your way up to the Triforium to collect.

Exhibition view for staff and volunteers

Please join us in the Crypt on Wednesday 26th April between 9 and 10am for refreshments and a special preview of our new exhibition, Christopher Wren: The Quest for Knowledge before it opens to the public.

The exhibition explores Wren's life and work, with fascinating pieces from our archives and personal treasures from our collection, in this Wren 300 year.

Find out more about Wren 300 events and activities on our website.

Equal Access Project wins award

The 2023 Civic Trust Awards were held on the 31st March, and our Equal Access Project was an award winner!

The project won a Selwyn Goldsmith Award for Universal Design, presented in recognition of architect Selwyn Goldsmith, to projects which demonstrate excellent universal design principles.

The judges commented,

'This is a well considered and executed project, and the craftsmanship is exemplary.'

A huge congratulations to Caroe Architecture, the Works team and all of the partners and contractors involved.
