Latest update from SLT

Over the past month, SLT has met each Thursday morning and discussed, among other things:

  • The progress of the works on the Whispering Gallery including pre-contract discussions around access and contractor working hours

  • What is needed for the third and final phase of work on the Remember Me project

  • The writing of the Annual report

  • A possible grant application to the Goldsmiths Company

  • The wording for Safeguarding information posters to be displayed at key points in the Cathedral

  • The future location of the Light of the World. It has been trialled in the Minor Canons’ Aisle and will now be moved for a second trial period to the South Nave Aisle.

  • We also received two presentations from Madura Advisory Ltd on the work they have been doing on fundraising campaign readiness for the Cathedral

Pilot Wren 300 tour - sign up!

Our fantastic Volunteer Guide team are inviting staff and volunteers to attend a newly developed tour of the Cathedral, which takes a more in-depth look at Christopher Wren’s life, work and many interests during the 300th anniversary year of his death. The pilot tour will take place on Wednesday 5th April, 1-2pm.

Our Guides have worked hard on this tour and are looking forward to launching it to visitors at the end of April. This event will be a chance for them to celebrate the work they have put in, and ask for some light feedback from attendees, too.

There are a limited number of spaces available for this tour, please register to book your place!

First Aid training update

From Gemma Winpenny, Deputy Events Coordinator and First Aid Assessor:

A huge well done and thank you to Stephanie Brasier, Felicidad Martinez, Sarah Jane McGregor, Ellie Bound, Alice Bray, Margaret O’Sullivan, Denise Caplin, Jane Richardson, Ellen Sun and Lisa Shuttleworth, who all recently completed their 3-day First Aid at Work qualification. They all passed successfully, and we’re delighted to have them as part of the team of First Aiders here at St Paul’s.

In-house since January 2023, we now have 16 newly qualified First Aiders, which is fantastic. Further First Aid courses will be available for all staff and clergy in the autumn, and we will share the dates of these soon.

If you use anything out of a First Aid Kit whilst on-site, please make sure you inform Sharon Raynham and Chris Head so that we can re-stock that particular kit as soon as possible.

In whatever way you help our visitors and passers-by at St Paul’s, or perhaps on your way to and from work, thank you all very much.

Checking voicemail messages

With the Cathedral getting busier and busier, it's more important than ever to check your phone messages, and so here's a gentle reminder from the IT team.

If you are a staff member who has a work phone, the voicemail inbox limit is 40 messages per extension, with a maximum voicemail message length of 5 minutes. Once this limit is reached, calls that would normally go to voicemail will be cut off.

You can check your voicemail in Microsoft Teams, or if you have a physical handset, you can check your voicemail from there too.

If you need any help with accessing or retrieving your voicemail, please do contact the IT Helpdesk.

Contacting the HR team

If you need to reach HR with any questions, requests or follow-ups then please always use the AskHR@stpaulscathedral.org.uk email address rather than contacting individual members of the team.

New invoicing system coming soon

Good news! Finance will be introducing a new digital invoice approval and purchase ordering (PO) system from Monday 24th April called Beanworks. The Enterprises team have been using Beanworks since 1st January, and now the testing phase is complete, it will be rolled out to all Cathedral departments. Here are a few key ways this new system will improve our processes:

  • Users will be able to easily track where invoices and POs are in the approval workflow and ease hold-ups

  • Invoice approvers will be able to see a complete history of activity in the system: previously approved invoices and pending invoices, the digital approval history, details on invoice coding, comments assigned to the invoice and other documents attached to the invoice to help with approval

  • Users will receive email notifications when an invoice requires their approval with a link directing them straight into the platform to review

  • Beanworks will regularise the approval process and act as a centralised hub, reducing the number of emails to and from the invoice mailboxes

Dan Graham will be sending an email shortly covering off the training aspects to those staff who will be using the new system. Core training will be provided by Beanworks on Monday 17th April at 3pm and Wednesday 19th April at 3pm. It will cover all the basics, and the sessions will be recorded and distributed to users afterwards. As well as this, Finance will be preparing a series of short ‘how to’ training videos and Teams drop-in sessions to assist with training.

Earth Hour

Tomorrow, Saturday 25th March, Earth Hour will take place around the world at 8.30pm local time. The ethos of the initiative is to give an hour for Earth by spending 60 minutes doing something positive for our planet.

One way to mark the event is by switching lights off. Tomorrow, we will play our part to inspire and encourage action for change - and that means our Dome will remain unlit for the whole night. You can find out more about our work around climate change and the environment on our website.

Installation of Emily MacKenzie and Joanne Day

Last Sunday, our Chief Operating Officer Emily MacKenzie was formally installed by the Bishop of London during a service at the Cathedral. Jo Day was installed as Chief Financial Officer, and Emma Ineson was installed as Bishop of Kensington. Here's a lovely photo by Graham Lacdao capturing the occasion!

And finally...

Here's your reminder that it's the last few days to see the Cryptic Cathedral exhibition beside the Concorde Lounge, with wonderful works of art from talented creatives from across our Cathedral teams. The exhibition will be on display until the 31st March.

If you have anything to include in next week's news, please email internalcomms@stpaulscathedral.org.uk by Wednesday at the latest. If I don't receive content by Wednesday afternoon, I won't be able to include in that week's news.

With very best wishes,
Laura
