Weekly news

3rd March
2023

Dear ,

Welcome to your first weekly newsletter of the month as we slowly head into spring. In this week's edition you will find:

Here's a photo from the Chapter and Heads of Department meeting earlier this week, taken up on the rooftop of Sarasin & Partners - update about that meeting coming soon!

Maundy Thursday Sung Eucharist request

Every year on Maundy Thursday, the Dean washes the feet of 12 members of our Cathedral community. At the Last Supper, Jesus washed the disciples' feet as an act of service. Recreating this act is a reminder of how Jesus served others, and of how Christians are to behave towards others.

If you would like to take part, and would be willing to have your feet washed during the 5pm Sung Eucharist on Thursday 6th April, please get in touch with James Milne, our Precentor.

If you are interested but would like to know a little more about what is involved before committing, please do not hesitate to get in touch with James to find out more.

Tap to Donate news

There's excellent news from the Development team this week about our Tap to Donate units: They have raised an incredible £15,000 already this year, and in both January and February they have more than doubled their respective 2022 monthly totals!

We have five standing units positioned throughout the Cathedral, and three handheld units that are used at the end of services and events. They are all set to a minimum donation level of £5, which can be increased if a donor wishes.

This is a growing source of voluntary income for us, contributing towards our day to day running costs. Each of those £5 taps is really adding up!

Thank you to the VEAs and volunteers who are helping to make this happen. If you would like to find out more, please do come and speak to a member of the Development team.

Fashion show in the Crypt

We opened our doors for a very special event as part of London Fashion Week on the evening of Friday 17th February.

Annie’s Ibiza held their first collection show in the Cathedral Crypt, with skincare and make-up by Sofia and Charlotte Tilbury, hair by Sam McKnight and Mr Smith, show production by Antony Waller (in conjunction with White Light Productions) and champagne donated by Moet & Chandon and served by The Recipe.

Q&A sessions for Microsoft Office 365

Following on from MS Office training earlier this year, we will be holding two Q&A sessions for Office 365 in May. Our trainer, Emma, will be available for drop in Q&A sessions on the 10th and 24th May, 11am till 12 midday, and 1pm till 2pm in the Large Chapter Room.

If anyone would like Emma’s time after 2pm, appointments can be made, and she can meet you at your desk for a one-to-one session, too. Please email Garry Hunter if you would like to book some individual time with Emma.

What's on next week

image.
  • Thursday 9th March: Last entry for sightseeing will be at 1pm, and we will close early ahead of our celebratory reception at 3.30pm. We will reopen for 5pm Evensong.

Pension clinic dates

There will be pension clinics taking place throughout the year. The dates are:

  • Wednesday 15th March

  • Thursday 22nd June

  • Friday 6th October

To enquire about available times and book an individual, confidential slot, please email AskHR@stpaulscathedral.org.uk.

A few reminders

  • Hannah Woolley's last day in the office is today, 3rd March. Her farewell tea will take place in the Large Chapter Room at 3pm. Everyone is welcome, and please do respond to the Outlook invitation sent by myself earlier this week so we have an idea about numbers. There will be cake - but please bring your own hot drink of choice!

  • There's still time to make a contribution to Hannah's leaving gift, too. The online collection will remain open for a few days longer, and the card (and option for cash contributions) is at Chapter House Reception.

  • There's still time to apply for our Shop Sales Assistant role - or pass the details onto someone who might be interested in applying! The deadline is Tuesday 7th March. Find out more on our website.

  • If you haven't yet sent an RSVP for the celebratory reception at 3.30pm on the 9th March, then don't forget to email Millie Walker as soon as you can!

And finally...

The Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress are hosting a Children’s Fancy Dress Party at the Mansion House for children between the ages of 6-9 years on Saturday 15th April, 2.45-6.30 pm.

The Lord Mayor has kindly invited the staff of the Cathedral to nominate children to attend who they have a significant caring relationship with, or responsibility for. They will need to be accompanied by an adult, and please note that nominations should be for children that have not previously attended.

As this is primarily a party for children, it is requested that the number of adults should be kept to a minimum. If anyone is interested, please contact Angela Eastwood by Friday 17th March.

The very last addition for this week is more in the way of wonderful creative talents from colleagues. Tiggy Sawbridge, Interim PA to the Dean, will be singing in Verdi’s Requiem with the City of London Choir at the Barbican on Tuesday 14th March at 7.30pm.

Tickets can be booked via the Barbican website, and promo code CLCVR15 will apply a 15% discount on each ticket!

The concert will be performed straight through, without interval, and therefore finish soon after 9pm. The Barbican Stalls Bar will stay open after the concert.

If you have any feedback, or news and updates to share in next next week's news, please email internalcomms@stpaulscathedral.org.uk by Wednesday.

With very best wishes,

Laura
