Upcoming TRU works and service changes between Huddersfield - Leeds (April to June)

Between April and June, the Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU) will take a significant step forward delivering improvements for faster, more reliable journeys. Major engineering works will take place between Huddersfield and Leeds.

Huddersfield station transformation:
Significant progress continues at Huddersfield station. The station will be closed on most weekends in April and May to allow for:

  • Platform remodelling
  • Subway excavations
  • Installation of a new staircase and footbridge
  • Further extensions to the historic canopy

The station transformation remains on track for completion in early 2027.

Key upgrade works:

Deighton (2–26 May):

  • Track and drainage renewals at Bradley Junction
  • Whitacre Street bridge reconstruction
  • Ongoing construction of Deighton station
  • Wheatley's bridge reconstruction

Dewsbury & Batley (30 May–27 June):

  • Batley station: platform extensions to 150 metres and step-free access introduced following commissioning of the lifts
  • Dewsbury station: platform extensions (to 200 metres) to support longer, trains
  • Jack Lane bridge reconstruction (Batley)
  • Track renewals and overhead line equipment (OLE) installation

Brighouse Station car park

The station car park will be closed from Wednesday 29 April to Tuesday 26 May 2026 to support rail replacement bus services during the upgrade works.

  • Alternative parking will be available nearby, including on-street bays and the Daisy Street pay and display.
  • Blue badge spaces will remain accessible within the station car park.

Up to four buses per hour will operate between Brighouse and Huddersfield (reduced overnight), with traffic management and security in place to minimise disruption.

Changes to train services

There will be changes to weekday and weekend train services between Huddersfield and Leeds.

  • Some services will be diverted

  • Rail replacement buses will be in operation

  • Journey times may be longer, and some journeys may require a change

April (weekends)

No trains will call at Huddersfield or Slaithwaite. Services between Manchester and Leeds will be diverted via Hebden Bridge. An amended timetable will be in operation:

  • Saturday 4 & Sunday 5 April

  • Saturday 11 & Sunday 12 April

  • Saturday 18 & Sunday 19 April

  • Saturday 25 & Sunday 26 April

May

Weekends: No trains will call at Huddersfield or Slaithwaite and services between Manchester and Leeds will be diverted via Hebden Bridge. An amended timetable will be in operation:

  • Saturday 2 & Sunday 3 May

  • Saturday 9 & Sunday 10 May

  • Saturday 16 & Sunday 17 May

  • Saturday 23 May

  • Monday 25 May (bank holiday)

No trains will depart Huddersfield towards Dewsbury and Leeds. Amended timetables and rail replacement buses will be in operation between Huddersfield, Dewsbury and Leeds:

  • Sunday 24 May

  • Saturday 30 & Sunday 31 May

Weekdays: No trains will depart Huddersfield towards Dewsbury and Leeds. Amended timetables and rail replacement buses will be in operation between Huddersfield, Dewsbury and Leeds:

  • Monday 4 to Friday 8 May

  • Monday 11 to Friday 15 May

  • Monday 18 to Friday 22 May


June

Weekends: No trains will depart Huddersfield towards Dewsbury and Leeds. Amended timetables and rail replacement buses will be in operation between Huddersfield, Dewsbury and Leeds:

  • Saturday 6 & Sunday 7 June

  • Saturday 13 & Sunday 14 June

  • Saturday 20 & Sunday 21 June

Weekdays: No trains will run through Dewsbury and services between Huddersfield and Leeds will be diverted via Wakefield Kirkgate:

  • Monday 1 to Friday 5 June

  • Monday 8 to Friday 12 June

  • Monday 15 to Friday 19 June

  • Monday 22 to Friday 26 June
